The Toyota FJ Cruiser hit the North American market for the 2007 model year. Its classic/retro styling was developed to remind buyers of the Toyota F40 Land Cruiser (also known as the Bandeirante), which was sold until 1984.
The Land Cruiser was designed primarily to compete with the Jeep Wrangler — essentially it’s an SUV with off-road looks that’s capable of performing well on road as well as off.
The FJ Cruiser is built in Toyota’s Hamura., Tokyo plant. There are several special editions sold, including the TRD Special Edition FJ Cruiser and the Trail Teams Edition.
