The Ford Ranger is one of Ford’s longest running compact pickup trucks to date. It is considered an entry-level truck. The Ranger as we know it now dates back to 1983 when it was introduced. Prior to that it was offered as a leaner option for some Ford F-Series trucks. When they gave it its own line, the Ranger replaced the Ford Courier which was built off an existing Mazda B-Series chassis. The Ranger was designed from Ford’s larger pickups as a compact model that comes with a four wheel drive option.
The Ford Ranger comes as a 2.3 liter I4, a 3.0 liter V6, and a more powerful 207 horsepower 4.0 liter V6. All models come equipped with a 5 speed transmission, including overdrive, and a choice of manual or automatic.
Its competitors include the Nissan Frontier, Toyota Tacoma, and Chevrolet Colorado.
