The Chevrolet Cavalier was produced until 2004. From 1982 to 2004, the Cavalier was Chevy’s popular compact offering. Its design and style offerings changed significantly through the years as it was available as a sedan, hatchback, coupe, and wagon. At one point, it even included a convertible model. The Cavalier was particularly popular in the early eighties, due to its low price and fuel efficiency. It was an American-made alternative to the new compact, fuel efficient offerings from Japanese manufacturers.
During its nearly 20 year run, there were only two significant model generations of the Cavalier. However, there were various additions, improvements and redesigns. The engine included in the second generation base model went through several evolutions, finally settling on a 2.2 liter, 16 valve engine. The Cavalier generally rated well on cost and fuel economy, but did face less than stellar safety ratings at various points in its history.
