The Chevrolet Astro van was a truck based drive train, yet uni-body construction. Sized between Lumina/APV and full sized GM/GMC vans, it is not necessarily considered a “mini-van”. The suspension and drive train setup also allowed for ample towing capacity, up to 5,500 pounds with the right options installed. This was a step up from the 3,500 pound rating that front wheel drive mini-vans carried at the time.
The First Generation Astro was produced between 1985 and 1994 with three engine options: 2.5L TechIV 4 cylinder with 98 hp, the 4.3L 4300 V6 with 165 hp, and the 4.3L 4300 V6 with 200hp.
The Second Generation Astro was produced between 1995 and 2005 with the only available engine being the 4.3L V6 with 190 hp.
