The General Motors credit card earns you 5 percent on each purchase. This money is converted into GM Cash, which you can use to purchase a new GM vehicle. You can not use your GM cash to pay for the vehicle completely; each vehicle has a maximum amount of GM Cash that can be applied to it. GM Cash expires after seven years. GM brands include Buick, Cadillac, Chevrolet and GMC.
Check your GM Card’s GM cash accumulation balance. You can do this by logging into your online account manager, or by contacting GM’s customer service center at 1-800-771-7363.
View the maximum discount available for each GM vehicle. This amount varies with time.
Locate a GM dealer near you and visit the dealership. Test drive vehicles and determine which one you want to buy.
Negotiate a price on the vehicle, as well as any other details, such as the value of your trade in and the financing terms, if you are financing the vehicle.
Tell the salesman or manager you have GM Cash you’re going to use toward the vehicle. The dealership will gather the paperwork necessary. You’ll likely need your GM Card number and billing information so they can verify the cash accumulation.
